#5161: Pidgin sends the wrong domain to Jabber server
---------------------+------------------------------------------------------

    Type: defect | Status: new
Priority: minor | Component: XMPP
 Version: 2.4.0 | Keywords:

---------------------+------------------------------------------------------
Note: This problem only occurs in the pre-compiled 2.4.0 binary of
pidgin, and has been seen in both the pre-compiled windows and linux
 versions.

Background: I operate our company's internal Jabber/XMPP server which our
operations team uses for communication. The problem was originally
discovered when one of our employees was unable to login to his Jabber
account receiving the error that he was "Unauthorized".

Trouble shooting: After inspecting the server logs I noticed that Pidgin
was sending the wrong domain name during the authentication process. Our
jabber server runs on im.<ourdomain>, and is configured with the domain
 <ourdomain>.

The problem: The Pidgin configuration specifies <ourdomain> as the domain
for the account, but the client is sending the full hostname of the jabber
server causing an authentication failure. When I upgraded my own desktop
to Ubuntu gutsy I had the same problem logging into the jabber server. I
build 2.4.0 from source, and the problem went away.
