Comment:

 If you provide the IP address of the server you ultimately connect to in
 the Connect Server box in pidgin, and you don't actually need any of the
 advanced GSSAPI auth stuff, that might work.

 Alternatively, you can rebuild pidgin without Cyrus SASL support, which
 should keep working (as I don't think we fixed that bit of code).

 The fact that so many clients work with your server is an indication that
 they either aren't using SASL auth at all (psi up until recently did not
 and even now only does if compiled correctly), or is using internal custom
 SASL code (like pidgin does when not built with Cyrus) which gets this
 'wrong' in the same way the server does. I believe, and am attempting to
 find people to verify, that the current pidgin + Cyrus behaviour is the
 correct behaviour.
