 Okay, so far nobody wrote in plain text what is the '''workaround''', so I
 will do:

 1.  (Re)install pidgin-2.3.1; when asked to re-install older GTK version
 say "yes".

 2.  Install current pidgin-2.4.0; when asked to install newer GTK version
 say "no".

 That's it.
