Comment (by deryni):

 Unless Vista changed that, I do not see that behaviour in Windows
 applications on XP. In Wordpad for example I see "|wordA, wordB, wordC" ->
 "wordA|, wordB, wordC" -> "wordA, |wordB, wordC" -> "wordA, wordB|, wordC"
 -> "wordA, wordB, |wordC" -> "wordA, wordB, wordC|" and in pidgin I get
 "|wordA, wordB, wordC" -> "wordA|, wordB, wordC" -> "wordA, wordB|, wordC"
 -> "wordA, wordB, wordC|" so while pidgin does in fact work differently I
 would argue it operates more usefully and more consistently. Important
 things to notice, the pidgin (GTK+ really) behaviour is consistent even
 between words that don't have punctuation, the Windows behaviour (at least
 the one I see) is not. (I'm only responding to this ticket for
 completeness sake, I do not believe it should be reopened nor have
 anything done about it.

 (You can mess around with GTK+ key bindings to get a slightly closer to
 Windows movement style, but it is far from perfect, I posted the method to
 your ticket #4967.)
