I still contend I don't like it starting out so small. I can appreciate
increasing the maximum size if we HAVE to have auto-resize (not my
personal preference), but have you also (provided an option for)
increasing the minimum size, too? I think 2 lines is too small. Again, my
personal preference. This is why manual resize is nice, my preference
doesn't need to match yours.
Also, you say you think you can "make it work for everyone" and you have
"asked repeatedly for help" from people, but I contend people aren't
helping you because you have expressly stated (on at least once) you
aren't interested in their help or at least not interested in their
solution (with no other discussion on the matter). nodashi published a
diff that would, I believe, make BOTH camps happy, but you flat out
rejected his offer just because it added a single option to preferences.
When I read this I lost all interest in looking into helping you guys with
the code because I felt any help I offered would be similarly rejected.
Perhaps you can outline what kind of solution you would be willing to
entertain that will make both camps happy so us coders can offer assist
with a solution that you MIGHT be willing to accept? We also want to make
Pidgin better and a product.
Finally, you compare the number of active people in this thread voicing
their concerns to the number of Pidgin 2.4 downloads to the number of
FunPidgin downloads. Personally, I think your thinking on this is a touch
askew. The simple fact that so many people are voicing their opinions here
is amazing and does, I would argue, suggest that a potentially huge number
of people are unhappy. You cannot count on the "average" user to (a) hunt
down this change request (b) create an account (c) complain. If they even
got to (a) they might see that complaining seems to be gaining nothing and
just not bothered. I contend that 90% of your users will see the new
feature and love it, hate it and live it with or hate it and silently dump
Pidgin for something else -- few users will be so pro-active as to come
here and complain. The fact that THIS MANY people are complaining should
tell you something, I think. But what do I know.
