That sounds like a good idea.
When using my patch on ticket #5627 for XMPP it actually only makes sense
to use the custom smileys if the buddy supports XHTML-IM (since they are
only included when the message is sent with an xhtml element attached). So
it might make sense to have some way of determining per buddy, perhaps.
