 This is the xml sent by EXODUS (and it works fine):
 <auth mechanism="PLAIN" xmlns="urn:ietf:params:xml:ns:xmpp-
 sasl">ZnJhbmNlc2NvLmRpcHBvbGl0aUBzaXJtLmRpZmVzYS5pdABmcmFuY2VzY28uZGlwcG9saXRpAHBhc3N3b3Jk</auth>

 As you can see, PIDGIN sends the following two more elments:
 xmlns:ga='http://www.google.com/talk/protocol/auth' ga:client-uses-full-
 bind-result='true'

 which probably confuse the server.
