 Given the clarification the preference I mentioned will 'fix' this problem
 at the cost of not keeping the history around when you close the window
 and they IM you shortly thereafter. But if you do have logging turned on
 the History plugin will do rather the same sort of thing, only without a
 time limit. This is a bug we knew about, thought we had fixed, but is
 apparently still present.
