 Here is scenario:(atleast wrt Yahoo messenger)

 I and my friend are chatting and he asks me a question. But his internet
 disconnects in between. Now I do not know that he is disconnected so I
 send him an answer and wait for his reply. He logs in again but Pidgin
 doesnt inform me that he is back,

 This causes confusion sometimes, as I keep waiting for his reply, as I
 dont know he was disconnected and he keeps waiting for my message,
 assuming I know that he got disconnected and is back now.

 Yahoo servers probably tell Pidgin of status change to Available, but
 since for Pidgin he is already in Available state, it ignores it.

 So may be this behaviour needs to be corrected and Pidgin should inform
 that user is online.

 Steps to reproduce:
 1) Open conversation with friend, type 2-3 lines
 2) Ask buddy to remove LAN cable and then disconnect Yahoo messenger
 3) Re-insert LAN cable and connect again.
 4) You wudnt come to know that he is back.

 On a related note, exactly opposite behaviour happens when you are
 chatting with a friend and you yourself get disconnected and then
 reconnect, then in the conversation window it says, "FriendName signed
 on", it also triggers "Buddy pounce" for that friend which is wrong, as
 actually it is you who has come online not your buddy.
