 you can manually set XMPP to gtalk, additionally I know that GTalk
 definitely has the wrong logo, it says XMPP, which has been reported, if
 you can not connect I'd recommend setting it manually since GTalk is just
 an XMPP protocol

 additionally what system are you on and what version of pidgin, I just
 tried to set up a gtalk account and while it had the wrong logo it was
 still able to connect.
