I'm running Pidgin 2.4.2 on Redhat Enterprise Workstation.
Pidgin starts automatically when I log into KDE. If I'm at my work
location it connects to our internal Sametime server and connects
externally to MSN. If I'm at home the Sametime server is not reachable
until I have manually connected to the VPN server, so as expected Pidgin
is only able to connect to MSN at first.
The behavior I would expect is that after I've connected to the VPN server
(so the Sametime server is now reachable) I would be able to click the
"reconnect" button at the bottom of the buddy list in Pidgin and it should
connect me to Sametime as well as MSN. I can, of course, click the
reconnect button but the connection is never made between Pidgin and the
Sametime server. However, if I shut Pidgin down at this point and restart
it makes all the connections as I would expect (to both Sametime and MSN).
Clearly I wouldn't expect you guys to support my VPN solution or any VPN
in particular. But, I thought it worth asking the question whether you
can think of what might be going on here?
Put simply, the chain of events is:
1: Start KDE without VPN connection
2: Pidgin starts automatically
: connects to MSN
: fails (as expected) to connect to Sametime
3: Connect to VPN server (Sametime server now reachable)
4. Click reconnect in Pidgin
: connection to Sametime fails
: multiple attempts over time do not help
5: Quit Pidgin and restart
: connection to Sametime and MSN successful
