Comment:

 The window being placed behind is not something we did, that is something
 Gnome is doing. It is the 'focus stealing prevention' code doing its job,
 a job that it does with questionable accuracy and which annoys almost as
 many people as it helps. There is nothing pidgin can do about this, the
 Gnome code is working exactly as it was designed to work. You may be able
 to disable focus stealing prevention entirely (or change the level it runs
 at) and that may help but short of that there isn't much you can do.
