Comment:

 As stated all pidgin does is inform firefox that we have a link for it to
 show. It is up to firefox and your window manager/desktop environment
 (probably metacity/Gnome) to handle that as they want. There is a large
 metacity [http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482354 bug] filed
 about exactly this sort of issue, the problem is that not everyone agrees
 what should and should not happen in these cases.
