 I just encountered this in 2.5.2.  I had written a tutorial for adding an
 IRC channel to the buddy list and people were telling me it didn't work.
 It was because I had used capital letters in the tutorial when the channel
 didn't have caps.

 This looks like it has been around a while and could easily be fixed.
