 I notice the same issue with v2.5.2 (debian experimental package).

 Adding custom smiley by right-clicking on them in a conversation doesn't
 work, while it does work by saving the picture, then adding it in the
 smiley dialog.

 While trying to add the custom smiley with right-click, there is an X
 error which is logged :

 X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
   Major opcode:  19
   Minor opcode:  0
   Resource id:  0x2cbec7b
