 SRV records are not looked up on the connect server, they can't be. They
 are used to find the connect server. As such they are looked up on
 gmail.com (which has them). I'm not sure why google.com does as well.

 We can't remove the connect server because as I indicated originally there
 are people who have DNS servers which cannot or do not respond to SRV
 requests and they will be unable to connect without manually specifying
 the connect server. As I said, pidgin does not set the connect server at
 this point so the fact that you had it was a remnant from an older
 configuration (there was a point in time where pidgin didn't support SRV
 lookups and as such we instructed people to add the connect server, but
 that was a while ago).

 Unless there are other servers with which you are having this problem I'm
 going to close this ticket.
