#7312: Pidgin 2.5.1 takes too much virtual memory and uses too many processes

Comment(by LpSolit):

 OK, I found why Pidgin became crazy:

 RealPlayer is blocking all applications from using the audio output and
 everytime someone mentions my nick in the channel, Pidgin tries to play a
 sound as notification. But as it's blocked by RealPlayer, new processes
 are created and the virtual memory increases dramatically at each
 notification.

 I stopped RealPlayer, and at the next notification, they all came at once
 (generating a loudly and frightening sound) and the number of processes
 and virtual memory used vanished immediately.

 Maybe should Pidgin give up if it cannot play the sound immediately? This
 would avoid crazy numbers as reported above.
