Comment:

 If your buddies really are using AOL itself (and not AIM) then I'm not
 certain it sends typing notifications (I believe it didn't for a good
 while, but I never used it so I could be mistaken). Furthermore, it is an
 optional feature in the AIM client (last I knew anyway) so your buddies
 could simply have the option turned off. Are you sure you should be
 getting these notifications?
