New description:

 Hello!

 I'm using the latest version (2.5.1) of Pidgin on Windows, using the GTK
 package that comes bundled with that release.
 So, if I navigate to the status menu with the keyboard, I should (if I'm
 not mistaken) be able to start typing the name of the status, for
 instance, 'A'+'V'+... for "Available," 'A'+'W'+... for "Away" and so on.
 However this just completely doesn't work -- the menu doesn't respond to
 my typing. Neither can I use the arrow keys to navigate in the status menu
 list, as I can on the linux version.

 I hope this helps, and thank you for a great program!

 Behavior (or lack thereof) persists in version 2.5.1.
