 Apologies for the late reply.
 A different guide I read on the pidgin site didn't mention the comment
 markers.
 After removing them, the custom shortcuts worked; however, shouldn't
 ctrl-f4 be added as a default? Every application I've used that has tabs
 has this behavior. Does the open desktop standard mention anything about
 standardized keyboard shortcuts? I noticed in every guide to keyboard
 shortcuts I looked up it seems standard that ctrl-f4 closes a document in
 a multi-document application.
 Ah well, as long as I can properly customize it, I spose. Just makes it
 unintuitive.
