 I've been using pidgin since its first releases, and now I've decided to
 suggest a feature

 Msn Messenger has a little bar where you can type and search for contacts.
 It is an incremental search, and that allows to filter the contact list,
 therefore know quickly if that contact is online/offline (in your long
 contacts list)

 Hope you've understood my idea.
