Comment:

 You wouldn't necessarily have to explicitly install Apple Bonjour for it
 to be on the system - some other programs bundle it.

 Does that mean that even after installing Bonjour it hangs?

 Can you see where it is hanging?  If you don't have any debuggers
 installed on the machine, there is a
 [http://www.intellectualheaven.com/default.asp?BH=projects&H=Strace.htm
 strace for windows] utility that will show the last external function
 called.
