 Oh, it's been a while since I looked at the preferences screen under
 Gnome, it looks like we added links to the gnome proxy setup.

 I wouldn't expect it to crash with the configuration you have specified
 above - I guess what is happening is that some connection attempt that is
 not associated with an account directly (I guess yahoo does this at login
 time to retrieve a URL) is causing the crash.

 The crashing bug has been fixed (see #7047), it just looks like the
 workaround isn't complete.

 One way to avoid this is to trick pidgin into not thinking you're running
 under GNOME by unsetting GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID before starting pidgin.

 We'll be releasing 2.5.2 soon, which will contain a fix for this.
