 I use Pidgin on a couple of computers, and I can tell you this bug exists
 in all versions on all platforms i've tried so far.

 Every time you connect/reconnect your internet connection/vpn, the error
 message pops up.
 Every time the connections fails to the msn servers (which happens all the
 time), the error message pops up.
