 I would not restrict this to just Windows. I had an issue with my Linux
 box at work and I fixed it by entering a permanent IP of a working server.
 However, my DNS server for that computer might be a corporate Windows
 server. I will have to verify that tomorrow when I get back as I don't
 remember if I changed it or not.

 But I would agree it could easily be OS dependent on how it pulls IPs from
 DNS. If Windows does not give a list of IPs via the system call, Pidgin
 would not have anything to fall back onto. This would require a DNS
 library be included in Pidgin and would be a bad hack in that the OS
 should provide this functionality already.
