 pidgin shouldn't be forgetting any information that it has received,
 unless it is being told something else at a later date. But no pidgin
 should not be checking at every login because that can be a relatively
 expensive operation (especially when the information is only stored in the
 vcard). There are XMPP extensions to make this happen more easily and
 cheaply but I don't know (without checking) what the status of pidgin's
 support for them is nor what Google Talk's support for them are.

 Can you get the Help->Debug Window information from when you Get Info on
 one of the buddies for whom pidgin forgets, and get the Debug Window
 information from when pidgin logs in? (If you are uncomfortable putting up
 a debug log with your buddies usernames in them, feel free to censor them
 out or snip just the entry relating to the buddy we are looking at.)

 Do users other than yourself exhibit this problem? You cannot actually add
 yourself to your roster so pidgin has to fake it, this faking may, quite
 likely, not remember data from things like Get Info.
