 I just pressed F2 on a buddy, removed their email from the buddy name and
 pressed Enter with an empty name and then pidgin showed the user real
 name. I've restarted pidgin some times since that and the user keeps it's
 original name :) I've done many things in the past minutes testing pidgin,
 but I'd say that setting an empty alias, fixed the display name for that
 user.
 I tried it on my own contact but it didn't work.

 Further testing required but I don't have much people online now.
