Comment:

 Running "bt full" over and over again without having continued the program
 and interrupting it again just produces exactly the same backtrace each
 time you run it.

 Is Pidgin spinning (using CPU) or just hung? could you strace the pidgin
 process and post a snippet of that while it's hung?
