 I sign into AIM via pidgin and I set an away messages status. Then I log
 off and then sign back in. The away message re-appears as my status on
 pidgin. However, when I check my status via my buddy list/profile it shows
 up as "Away" only. I dont know what you mean by protocol(s)??
