 Right, my concern is that that will be unexpected and provides an
 insignificant benefit over a smarter tab completion system like the one I
 mentioned.

 irssi also has tab completion for an empty input area, it autocompletes to
 "/msg -<servertag> <nickname>" of the last person you have messaged, I
 find it incredibly annoying.
