 I agree that it is best idea not to have protocol level differences. But
 my point is on user interface (UI) level.

 Why doesnt Pidgin show "Privacy settings" item in right click menu? There
 must be code somewhere which checks if user is ACTUALLY there in server
 list then show privacy settings, else not? Is it really necessary to check
 if buddy is in server list or not? Shudnt it show all options for user who
 is in local list, regardless of if he is on server list or not?

 Since official YM doesnt allow to add non-buddies in list, I dont think
 there is such code there either.i.e. it assumes that since user is in
 local list, it has to be on server list.
