Comment:

 It has been our opinion and experience that the current status is usually
 not the correct choice when creating a new custom status.  Most of the
 time a custom away status or a much more complicated status is desired.
 The custom away status being the most common desire when we implemented it
 as the default is the reason it is currently the default.  That said, I'd
 be more inclined to say we shouldn't default to any status at all than to
 default either to the current status or the opposite of the current
 status.
