 Hmm, okay. Try renaming (to move it out of the way) these folders/files
 one at a time while Pidgin is closed and test between each:
   * logs
   * icons (I don't expect it to do anything, but let's see).
   * prefs.xml (this will reset all your Pidgin preferences. Move the file
 back while pidgin is not running back to restore your settings).
   * blist.xml
   * pounces.xml
   * status.xml
   * xmpp-caps.xml
