 I just tested the functionality in pidgin 1:2.5.5-1ubuntu8.4 (ubuntu
 jaunty) and it worked - I had successful conference between a pidgin and
 two GTalk (in GMail) users.

 The pidgin's chat interface can benefit from some polishing though.

 And what about pidgin to be able to create a chat room by itself and
 invite others? Please open the bug until invitations are implemented.
