 I tried Mercury as well, just to get online to talk to people.
 And it gave the following error message :

 "You are logged out because there was a problem with the connection with
 the MSN server (64.4.16.34:1863).

 End of file/stream"

 Now this might be useful information since it would explain a nullpointer
 on a string, indicating a change or something in the MSN protocol.
