 This is because the version of Ejabberd currently running on jabber.org
 doesn't set the "delayed" timestamp on incoming presences when you log on.
 This means Pidgin thinks the buddy just became idle. Using a server that
 support delayed delivery for presence makes this work (and it works for
 ordinary messages even in these Ejabberd versions, which you could see on
 offline messages, which are also stamped with a timestamp like that).
