Comment:

 What version does the Help->About window report?  Where is Pidgin
 installed?  Is the older version still on your system some place?

 The debug log you posted indicates that Pidgin (or the MSN protocol
 plugin) was not properly installed and the older version is still in-use.


 On another note, it's a really really bad idea to run Pidgin (or just
 about any application that doesn't absolutely need it, which Pidgin does
 ''not'') as root.
