 Yes, options have history and people get used to them. The preference has
 been in the tray icon menu for at least two years and has not caused any
 great uproar. We get occasional questions about the location of this
 preference, but we also get occasional questions about the taskbar
 blinking on new messages (and that does live in the preferences dialog on
 Windows). So I see little reason to think that moving it will make it
 incredibly more obvious and it will just confuse anyone who has gotten
 used to the current location.

 miohtama: What other applications do you know of that have blinking tray
 icons? Where do they have their preference for that? How many of those
 applications have a useful tray icon menu?

 skari: What software gives you access to options from multiple places?
 (Why do you think that is good? Most people think that is actually bad,
 including UI people.) What preferences do these applications give you
 access to from multiple places? Are they extremely contextual to one of
 the locations?
