 I just wanted to share my experience: For me, it was very hard to find
 that option. Even Google did not help. I thougt there simply was no
 possibility to turn blinking off. (I am adressing the location of the
 blink switch, not the default value, which I think is fine).

 The standard case in almost every piece of software I know is: You have
 access to all the preferences via the main preferences dialog, and
 additionally to some from convenience locations. I think this is what most
 users would expect.
