Comment(by Daniel Beardsmore):

This is a slightly varied and complex issue. First and foremost, to
address your point -- you will have ''Conversations'' > ''Show detailed
information'' unchecked, which causes Pidgin to throw away idle status
 from the conversation window.

There are also various issues with and without this option set. With it
set, status is no longer shown in the taskbar button icon, which remains
fixed at the buddy icon. You can't monitor a person's status from the
taskbar any longer, be they Idle or Away. IIRC, Gaim would append a little
badge for status; Pidgin no longer supports this. Offline status as a
 greyscale icon still works correctly.

With the option unset, the taskbar icon is now the status icon (far more
useful IMO) but Idle status is now lost totally. The Green Pill is not
dimmed either in the window icon/taskbar button, or the conversation tab,
so you can't see if a person is there or not.

It seems to me like we need a rethink here. Idleness as translucency and
should always be used for the window icon; awayness should presumably be a
teensy (8 px square) clock, with appropriate badges for other status modes
 as per Gaim?

Likewise, the conversation tab Green Pill should become translucent for
Idle to match the Buddy List.

Waxhead -- does this seem reasonable?

(For the record: I am also in XP SP3.)
