 In this example, you have configured Pidgin to use port 5223 but have not
 checked the 'Use old-style SSL' option on the advanced tab of the account
 settings. As configured, that *shouldn't* work, as Google's server expects
 you to send SSL immediately (as opposed to negotiating SSL after
 connecting).
