 Thanks. I appreciate the follow-up. I think my confusion started with the
 Message box not being displayed unless filled out (how do you know how to
 get to it if it is not there?) or unless a status is selected. I did
 neither and didn't know how the feature worked. With Gtalk, the status
 messages have no separate name -- only the messages.

 If you click the name, it changes to a box where you can fill it out. If
 you click the pull-down, you can pick from previous or saved messages. In
 the pull-down there is an option for "custom" which also changes the
 status message display area to a fill-in box.

 A suggestion would be to change the click on status message action from
 the pull-down menu to a text box where one can enter a custom status
 message. The right arrow would preserve the pull-down menu function. I
 think that would do it and would require the least changes.

 It would be more clear to drop the status name and just have the status
 message in the status list, etc. like Gtalk. Less information make it
 clearer but I think my first suggestion would suffice.
