Comment:

 This is not something we have any interest in implementing at the moment
 as no protocols support defining structures like this on the server side
 (with the exception of a currently deferred XEP which I don't much like
 anyway). Furthermore I strongly believe that such advanced non-standard
 buddy list features should not be present in the default pidgin buddy list
 (we have enough trouble with people not understanding contacts that I
 really do not relish the idea of adding more).

 That being said, I believe finch supports this style of grouping (as well
 as others) and that is something I think is a good thing. As I have said
 before I would welcome any and all work that would seek to extract the
 buddy list view code from the buddy list window code so that plugins and
 the like could more easily replace the default buddy list view without
 needing to duplicate all of the buddy list window code.
