Comment:

 Another ticket dealing with this issue was closed a long time ago,
 probably the issue was solved.
 Also I remember someone saying this being an issue in old official clients
 as well and moving from v15 to v16 helps in solving this bug.

 Can you check if this is an issue with Pidgin 2.5.8
