 It doesn't apply to one-on-one conversations, but yes, it does apply to
 chat rooms in general.

 When you're discussing some code and quickly want to hack up an example of
 something in the input area it's handy to have access to the tab
 character. This is just one example of course. It really depends on the
 specific case whether the ability to insert a tab character is a want
 ('necessity' sounded too severe). OTOH, in the above example it's probably
 far easier to insert two spaces as indentation instead of having to press
 a hotkey to insert a tab character.

 Being able to configure the tab character hotkey would be nice, but then
 again... feature creep. I'm not sure what would be the most sensible
 default.

 From an empirical perspective it is probably best to close the bug report.
 It was just a crazy, not well thought-out idea.
