 I was forced to stop using Pidgin after this as I needed reliable Japanese
 input. I've just tried it out again (currently Ubuntu 9.04, x86-64, locale
 is ja_JP.UTF-8, Pidgin 2.5.5) and it doesn't seem to hang anymore, but I
 haven't used it long enough to be sure. Often the problem would come up in
 the middle of a conversation. If the problem arises again I'll post here.
