Comment:

 That works, when I checked the help->about, it said I was using libpurple
 2.7.4, so I did a ldconfig /usr/lib, changed the server back to
 scsa.msg.yahoo.com, then fired it up and my buddy list has re-appeared.

 Thanks to everyone who helped out here. I'm marking this as fixed.
