Comment(by deryni):
You seem to have assumed I indicated that everything pidgin doesn't
support is "glitz" that is not even remotely close to what I meant, nor
true.
If you have real features you think pidgin should have *file tickets
requesting them*. If you don't, we have no way of knowing you want them.
Now, as to your two reported/requested features.
It is definitely sub-optimal that pidgin doesn't give you a way to find
out what messages may have existed that you had not seen. However, a
combination of existing plugins does mitigate that problem (as would
judicious use of logging and time/date searching), namely the
[ThirdPartyPlugins#Interfacetweaks Session Save plugin] and the bundled
History plugin. A well implemented patch for this feature in pidgin would
be welcome.
pidgin supports docking the buddy list window to the side of the screen in
Windows, it does not in Linux because there is only spotty support for
such a feature in most environments. In neither case does pidgin support
acting like a hide-able tray, which is the feature I assume you are asking
for. Why we don't support that on Windows I'm not sure (but likely simply
because it isn't something we could get for free and as such requires
someone to write the feature and it hasn't happened, again patches likely
welcome). As to Linux, we don't support it there because we would need to
write quite a bit of code to do that and that is rightly something your
window management environment should provide for you automatically (for
any window you wish, not just ones from applications that support it). I
know a couple of environments that support that already.
