 The Buddies->New Instant Message, or Ctrl-M works for me. I have never
 previously
 used this to start an IM. I find it more intuitive to double-click on the
 buddy.

 I had to uninstall pidgin, because it was just not workable with the
 amount of
 groups and users I had. I have re-installed pidgin and I will review the
 user
 experience of using Buddies->New Instant Message

 That said, I am not sure this is the most intuitive way. I think it is
 important
 to give users options. Especially options that are more intuitive.

 As instant messaging becomes a more prevalent form of communication,
 user's
 groups and buddy lists are going to grow. Pidgin's User Experience around
 handling
 a large amount of groups with buddies is lacking and may alienate users.

 I think in the long run, pidgin development should consider
 implementing:[[BR]]
   a) A keyboard shortcut (or menu item) to expand all groups[[BR]]
   b) A keyboard shortcut (or menu item) to collapse all groups[[BR]]
   c) Ability to search through collapsed groups[[BR]]
