 i confirm as my bug has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. i suspesct
 this issue is not resolved in the latest pidgin.

 what i have done to cure the issue: other clients (meebo, kopete etc.
 didn't work), so go to icq.com and use "icq on the go" (flash app) to log
 in. icq on the go doesn't pretend it receives a large message, but it
 displays it and that deletes it from the queque. pidgin on the other hand
 is somehow crappy about it and just keeps saying silly things anout
 message being big and displaying months old messages... just because its
 developers didn't implement icq protocol correctly.
